Teaching Opportunities
During the PhD Programme, students can engage in teaching activities, namely by acting as Teaching Assistants (TA) for BSc and MSc courses offered at Técnico. If a student chooses to build on this opportunity, the activity as a TA can be credited in the curricular part of the student’s PhD Programme.
Additionally, the opportunity to teach during the PhD brings several important benefits for PhD students:
It enables students to develop important skills such as science communication and public speaking.
Through the process of teaching others, the student gains a deeper understanding of the topics being taught.
The teaching experience can bring added value to the students’ CVs, since several positions favour candidates with past teaching experience.
Teaching can also lead to further involvement in Técnico’s academic life, for example by allowing PhD students to get to know and collaborate with other faculty or get involved in mentoring younger students.
